  1. Regarding your photos at

Hi there. I have a question for you. I’m wondering if, when the photos of the Colombier de Carol were taken, you happened to see little wooden house on stilts (just across the water from the tower?)

Do you know anything about this funny thing that (Pre-K) stood on its own tiny island in Bayou Metairie? I’m including a link to my photobucket album, where you can see a map of its location to help you understand what I mean, along with a couple photos of what it looked like before the storm knocked it down. If you need more clarification, let me know.

I’ve been trying to find info on the house for years. I’ve tried calling City Park’s offices, visited the public library’s archives, and emailed Charles Foti (because he used to build the park’s Halloween structures) and Sally Reeves (a historian and author.) Despite repeated requests, Foti never responded to me and none of the other sources had anything to share. I’m hoping you might be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks for taking a little time with this.

Shoot… I suppose my earlier message should have been posted on the http://nolafemmes.com/2011/03/13/a-crown-jewel-in-new-orleans/ page instead of in the contact section. Woops.

  3. Hi, Kerry. I can’t recall seeing the structure you’re talking about, but when I get home tonite I’ll look thru the pictures we took and see if maybe either hubby or I snapped a picture of it.

I live in St. Croix where we have Mardi Croix( where I got some beads) , and know people in the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus who, have beads, etc. that we’d like to share with her. We even have a sticker and shirt with a dancing Chewbacca on it for her.( let me know light blue, or pinkish, and small or medium)
If you could please let me know where to send her the Mardi Gras items she missed out on.

  9. I am writing in reply to the author of “Lit Up Like a Parade”. I am so sorry you had to endure what happened that night. I am a member of Krewe of Rolling Elvi, I would be happy to make a personal appearance, in full costume of course, at the place of your choosing should such an appearance bring any joy to your daughter. At the very least, please e-mail me next year to let me know exactly where you will be to watch the parade, I will have something very special for her. Blessings to you.

I am so very sad that this precious little girl had to hear this dirt bag call her names and I am appalled that no one in the crowd said anything to this asshole to put him in his place! Shame on him! I hope she never has to experience anything like this again. She is a gift from God and deserves to be treated better than this. I hope she finds the strength to attempt attending another parade again because not going to parades is allowing idiots like this jerk have way more power than they are worth having.

  11. Hi! Thank you so much on the comment on “Emily Gras.” You have no idea how much this means to me. My grandaughter Amber is “highly functioning autistic.” This hits home big time. She lives in Indiana. She is now 18, with a functioning level at certain things as a 3rd grader. You guys are amazing and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Much love.
I forgot to mention that she has visited New Orleans and been to the Gretna parades.

  12. Thanks again.

To the Amy and her little girl from “Lit Up Parade”…blessings and love to you both. That you have to endure the cruel and hateful words of morons of the world is completely outrageous. I do so hope that your daughter will change her mind and continue to enjoy the parade for years to come…hoping the love and strength you have will help her put this horrible event behind her.

To all those that posted and offered to send the riches of the parade and/or to come and specifically perform…bless you. Too often our world seems disconnected and isolated…and it truly restores faith in humanity when so many will come to the assistance of a total stranger to counteract the bad behavior of one idiot.

  14. Hello y’all,
    On a positive note
My daughter was born on Mardi Gras day she loves New Orleans and loved the parades. Im so sorry a few ignorant people scarred your daughter. My daughter is 15 & has aspergers. She recently wrote and illustrated a book called Midnight High. It is currently being sold at Garden District Book store. I am beyond proud. She has been bullied her whole life. This book and her Art classes have changed her life.I hope your daughter can try to overcome such a brutal event. I have high hopes for our kids.
